What is Audi MMI?
MMI is a term of the car manufacturer Audi, and stands for "Man Machine Interface". Translated, it is the interface between man and machine – not very diverse, but women are certainly included here. Alternatively, it is also called a multimedia interface.
The MMI concept consists of a control unit in the centre console and a centrally placed screen. With the MMI, you control the entire infotainment system. These include the radio, music, hands-free system, navigation system and air conditioning. Audi is known for its high-quality interior, so improvements are constantly being made here. If you have the MMI, you can also use a reversing camera.
At VW, the operating concept is called VW App Connect.
Audi MMI Update: Here's how!
The Audi MMI is accompanied by constant updates to the navigation software. Even older models benefit from millions of updates to the route throughout Europe. These updates are not available free of charge and are carried out by an Audi service partner. Prices are not standardized and can vary greatly between workshops. You can also use MirrorLink or Android Auto to mirror apps from your smartphone to the car's screen.
If you don't have a navigation function, you can have it retrofitted. But this is not the only MMI function that can be added afterwards. The Audi smartphone interface brings phone calls, music and more to your Audi. Another MMI upgrade for older models is the Data Plug. With this you can connect your mobile phone to the MMI system via Bluetooth.

How to do an Audi MMI reset
On the PC, the "monkey grip" (pressing Ctrl, Alt and Del at the same time) is a well-known emergency solution when nothing else works. The Audi MMI system also has this function in some models. You can find more information in the respective user manual. However, here are two versions, for example:
MMI reset on Audi A3 8V:
On the Audi A3 8V, an Audi MMI reset can be performed by simultaneously pressing the menu button at the bottom left, the large round confirmation button in the middle and the navigation button at the top right.
MMI reset on Audi Q8:
At the same time, the Audi Q8 can be done by simultaneously pressing the setup button in the bottom left, the control button in the middle and the control button in the top right.
Reset tire pressure with Audi MMI
After changing the wheel or changing the tyre pressure, this must be confirmed in the tyre pressure monitoring system. This is how it works at Audi MMI:
Go to the Vehicle function → Settings & Service → Tire Pressure Monitoring.
Here you can then save the tire pressure. This is how you can reset the Audi MMI tire pressure.

Audi MMI Features
If you use Audi MMI, you have the following functions:
- Entertainment: Radio, audio, video, TV (depending on generation)
- Communication: Address book, telephone
- Navigation and traffic information
- Settings: Air conditioning, vehicle
- Additional functions: e.g. Voice control, Bluetooth connectivity, touchscreen
How do I connect my mobile phone to Audi MMI?
If you want to connect your Android or iPhone to Audi MMI, you can do so with Bluetooth on newer Audi models. As a rule of thumb, all models with rotary and push-button switches are not Bluetooth-enabled and require a cable.
If the controls work with touch, you can connect your car to your phone via Bluetooth.
Activate Bluetooth on your smartphone
On your smartphone, look for Bluetooth in the settings or activate the following icon

Start Audi MMI (switch on ignition)
As soon as you start your Audi, the MMI is also activated.
Select the "Phone" menu item
In the MMI menu, look for the "Phone" menu item and select it.
Then select "Connect mobile phone"
You should now see the option "Connect mobile phone". Select them as well.
Then your smartphone will be displayed and you can confirm the pairing with a PIN. This will be displayed on your phone and screen. Depending on the operating system, you still have to give access permission on your smartphone and can then use the entire infotainment system.
The app is called "MyAudi" and is available for Android and Apple users. However, the experiences are mixed. This technology is probably still in its infancy at Audi.

Important questions and answers about Audi MMI
If you have any other questions about Audi MMI, we hope we can answer them below.
What MMI do I have in my car?
Which MMI version has been installed can be easily determined with some information. The following applies to the Audi A4, Audi A5 and Audi A8: If your MMI system only has red as the display colour and you have a CD navigation system in the glove compartment, it is the MMI 2G Basic.
If you have colorful display color and a DVD navigation system in the trunk, it's an MMI 2G High.
A colorful display and a control unit in the dashboard or CD changer are MMI 3G.
If you have a joystick on the steering wheel, it's MMI 3G Plus.
In the case of the other models, such generalizations are rarely generally valid. Between 2009 and 2013, MMI 3G was mostly installed.
However, such statements are not relevant for all models and may not be helpful in your specific case. Then you have to research with your model and the year of manufacture which MMI was installed at that time.
How much does Audi MMI cost?
Retrofitting Audi MMI at an Audi service partner costs differently depending on the workshop and must be requested individually.
